Indonesian Schoolboy Climbs Flagpole to Fix Rope on Independence Day

A video of a schoolboy who climbed a metres-high flagpole during an Independence Day flag-raising ceremony on August 17 at Indonesia’s Motaain checkpoint, which borders Timor Leste, has gone viral.According to Ika Silalahi, who shared the video on Facebook, “the little kid from Atambua” made a daring act to fix the flagpole rope and continued to climb to the top although Deputy Regent JT Ose Luan asked him to stop. Ika also shared a photo of the boy standing proudly next to the deputy regent at the podium.The schoolboy was identified by the local media as Yohanes Andigala, a Year 7 student from Silawan village.
