Price of seafood soars amid unprecedented heatwave
  • 6 years ago
The unprecedented heatwave this summer has caused the price of seafood to soar -- for some products by almost half.
Suyeop Noryangjin Fisheries has released data on the price of local seafood coming into the Noryangjin Fish Market in the first week of August.
The price of mackerel was 1 dollar and 50 cents a kilogram -- around forty percent higher than the same period last year.
A kilogram of squid was 3 dollars, up thirty percent.
The heatwave has caused a spike in water temperatures around the Korean Peninsula, resulting in lower yields for fishing boats.
