Pork prices in South Korea soared nearly 17 percent this month amid the outbreak of the African Swine Fever in China.
According to the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation,... the retail price of pork stood at almost four U.S. dollars a kilogram on average in April,... a whopping 36 percent increase from February's less than three dollars.
The prices of pork belly meat,... the most favored pork meat by Koreans,... also rose ten percent this month,... at nearly 16 dollars a kilogram.
Market watchers also say the pork prices may continue to rise due to a shortage of imported pork meat affected by the outbreak of the viral disease among pigs.
