Gary Cohn Suggests Banks In ’08 Showed Greater Responsibility Than Today’s Social Media Companies

Gary Cohn recently suggested that social media companies are exhibiting reckless and potentially harmful behavior.

Former Trump economic adviser and Goldman Sachs executive Gary Cohn recently suggested that some social media companies are exhibiting reckless and potentially harmful behavior.  "In '08 Facebook was one of those companies that was a big platform to criticize banks, they were very out front of criticizing banks for not being responsible citizens," Cohn told Bloomberg. "I think banks were more responsible citizens in '08 than some of the social media companies are today. And it affects everyone in the world. The banks have never had that much pull."  He was specifically referring to various platforms' roles in spreading misinformation and impacting elections.  Cohn served in the Trump administration for roughly 14 months and, as the Wall Street Journal reports, resigned shortly after the president announced his plan to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum.
