David Letterman has expressed his frustration with President Trump, even going so far as to suggest putting him “in a home.”
During a recent interview with the Associated Press, or AP, the former late-night talk show host said, in part, “If the guy was running Dairy Queen, he'd be gone. This guy couldn't work at The Gap...”
Letterman added, "...I know there's trouble in this country and we need a guy who can fix that trouble. I wish it was Trump, but it's not, so let's just stop whining about what a goon he is and figure out a way to take him aside and put him in a home.”
However, he also said, “...what I'm tired of is people, daily, nightly, on all the cable news shows telling us there's something wrong. I just think we ought to direct our resources and our energies to doing something about it.”
Part of Letterman’s actions has been to speak out more on the topic of climate change; in fact, he has taken part in a Funny or Die series called 'Boiling The Frog' hosted by Senator Al Franken.
In one episode, Letterman tells Franken, “I’m very frustrated because at my age--and I have a young son--I would like to have something tangible to at least think about that offsets all of the pessimism that has built up in me on the topic of climate change.”
Letterman also participated in a related project called 'Years of Living Dangerously' where he explains that he first became interested in the issue while spending time with his family in Montana where people are more closely tied to the environment.
Trump continues to be criticized for his decision to withdraw from the Paris climate agreement; the recent G20 joint declaration pointed out that the U.S. stands alone in this move, and summit host German Chancellor Angela Merkel called the action “regrettable.”
