Seoul having the highest temperatures for 111 years this summer
  • 6 years ago
Yesterday was the hottest day ever recorded in Seoul. We hit 39-point-6 degrees Celsius.
These temperatures can be dangerous.
Even last night it was over 30 degrees.
That's what scientists call a super tropical night.
Today, hard to believe, but it's probably going to be even hotter.
Our Lee Jee-hyun is standing by at the weather center with more.
Jee-hyun, I understand you've got a picture from yesterday taken with a thermal imaging camera.

Good morning. The picture next to me was captured yesterday, there is really no place we can escape from the extreme heat at the moment.

I am not surprised that we had all time record highs yesterday. And it's very likely today's highs will be in top 3 highest recorded in Seoul since 1907

Neighboring countries will also have blistering heat, with Tokyo forecast to hit 36 degrees today.

Yesterday's heat lingered through the night leading to a super tropical night in Seoul where the temperature didn't drop below 30 degrees,... and this afternoon we could see highs soaring to 39 degrees Celsius.

Chuncheon will also be at 39 and Busan will get up to 35 degrees. That's all for now, drink plenty of water and take it easy the heat can be really dangerous.

That's all for me. Back to you Devin.
