Seoul to hit 37 degrees today as Typhoon Jongdari slams Japan

The heatwave continues unabated here in Korea.
Today, the capital Seoul is forecast to hit 37 degrees Celsius.
That's hotter than just about anywhere else in the country, and hotter than Tokyo or Beijing.
Korea's east coast tonight will get a little rain, which will hopefully cool things down a bit.
And by Tuesday, the southernmost parts of South Korea could be under the influence of tropical storm Jongdari.
Now downgraded from a typhoon, the storm has veered west and is now over Japan, bringing strong winds and torrential rains.
It caused hundreds of flights to be canceled over the weekend.
The Japanese authorities have warned of the risk of landslides and ordered tens of thousands of people to evacuate.
They were criticized for giving the warning too late when floods killed more than 200 people earlier this month.
