Kokila Vrat is observed on Purnima during the lunar month of Ashadha. It is believed that Kokila Vrat should be observed in those years when there is an intercalary Ashadha month. In other words, Kokila Vrat should be observed only when Ashadha Masa is leaped. Kokila Vrat is dedicated to Goddess Sati and Lord Shiva. The name Kokila refers to Indian bird cuckoo and is associated with Goddess Sati.
माना जाता है कि कोकिला व्रत व्रत को रखने से लड़कियों को अच्छे पति की प्राप्ति होती है। वहीं अगर विवाहित महिलाएं इस व्रत को रखती हैं तो उनके पति की आयु बढ़ती है। यही नहीं इस व्रत को करने से सुंदरता भी बढ़ती है क्योंकि इस व्रत में इंसान को विशेष जड़ी बूटियों से नहाना होता है।
