U.S. Swimmer Ryan Lochte Given 14-Month Ban For Doping Violation The twelve-time Olympic medallist has been sanctioned by the US Anti-Doping Agency for an intravenous infusion. The USADA began investigating after an Instagram post showed Lochte receiving an “athletic recovery” IV injection drip of vitamins. Even though Lochte did not use a banned substance, athletes cannot usually receive IVs unless related to a hospitalization or via an exemption. In 2016, the six-time Olympic champion was also banned for 10 months after falsely claiming he was robbed during the Rio Olympic Games. The latest ban is effective until July 2019, having been backdated to when Lochte received the prohibited
intravenous infusion.
