Florida Police Dog Praised for Wrestling Gun From Suspect

The newest K-9 of the Pensacola Police Department was praised for potentially saving the lives of several officers on June 21 after the dog wrestled a loaded shotgun from a burglary suspect.Police said the incident took place at midnight in a house on North K Street. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Oliver Hurst, is accused of breaking into his girlfriend’s house, armed with the shotgun.Police say Hurst returned to his home and subsequently refused orders to surrender when police officers arrived at the scene. Hurst was pursued by police and the K-9, an 18-month-old German Shepherd called Foster, latched onto the shotgun and pulled it from his hands.Hurst was tasered and taken into custody, police said.
