Ed Miliband's favourite family café to be replaced by multi-million pound coffee chain
  • 5 years ago
The family run Parliament Hill café, who boasts the former Labour leader among their regular customers, has been pushed out after the local council refused to renew the lease, awarding it to multi-million pound chain Benugo. Run by Alberto d'Auria, his two daughters and son Alfonso, the 70-year-old dad-of-four feels betrayed by the council and is "angry and disappointed" that his business has been shut down. Regular customers are devastated by the "outrageous" decision and have slammed the council for not consulting the public, saying the café "might as well be a Starbucks". Alberto, a Savoy trained chef, said: "We did nothing wrong. My two daughters, my son and I built the cafe up from scratch and over 33 years our customers have been very happy with us.
