Making the Makers | Program Coordinator
In Halifax, Nova Scotia, there is a group of Indigenous students learning to be shipbuilders through the Pathways to Shipbuilding program. Tonia Marshall, who runs this two-year program, is also a single mother-of-four, whose own career path has taken a few different twists and turns. Marshall has had her own share of personal challenges, which has ultimately made her a stronger and more positive influence on her children and students.

Pathways to Shipbuilding is a partnership between the Mi’kmaw Native Friendship Centre, Irving Shipbuilding Inc., Nova Scotia Community College, GE Canada, Unifor, Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada, Employment and Social Development Canada, The Nova Scotia Apprenticeship Agency, Nova Scotia Office of Aboriginal Affairs, Nova Scotia Department of Labour and Advanced Education.
