Trade Minister says GM pullout not unrelated to Korea-U.S. FTA negotiations

On GM Korea's plans to shut down its plant in Gunsan, Korea's Trade Minister says the government is taking a comprehensive approach, and the issue could be linked to negotiations on the possible amendment of the South Korea-U.S. free trade agreement.
Paik Un-gyu said although GM cannot take part in the negotiations and that the matter can't be put on the negotiating table... the issue could affect the FTA talks in terms of the local auto industry.
The minister said GM should submit a long-term proposal to improve transparency of its business management in Korea to get government support.
He added that, if Seoul digs into its pockets,... the funds will be provided within WTO regulations.
