A stunning sun dog was spotted over a ski lift at the Whistler Blackcomb resort in British Columbia on Friday, February 9.A sun dog, formally called a parhelion, is an atmospheric optical phenomenon where a bright circular spot appears at either side of the sun, resembling a halo. It’s caused by sunlight refracting off ice crystals in the atmosphere. This video of the impressive parhelion was captured by artist Willy Bo Richardson. It shows a stunning rainbow-coloured halo appearing in the clear blue sky over the mountain resort, 75 miles north of Vancouver. Credit: Willy Bo Richardson via Storyful
