At an intimate ceremony at Rothera Research station on Saturday, July 15, two polar field guides from the UK became the first couple in history to get married in British Antarctic territory.Julie Baum and Tom Sylvester were married in a specially designed chapel by a magistrate from the BAT Government, an organisation based in the Foreign & Commonwealth Office. After the ceremony, the couple posed for a series of photos outside in temperatures of outside of -9 degrees. This is the first marriage since since the BAT marriage law was reformed in 2016. The reform made it easier for marriages to be arranged in the territory. The marriage will be valid in the United Kingdom. Credit: British Antarctic Survey via Storyful
