Report: Apple Music to Surpass Spotify in Paid US subscribers This Summer Spotify may be the top music streamer globally with 70 million paid subscribers, but Apple Music and its 36 million subscribers are quickly approaching. A Wall Street Journal report says that Apple Music could overtake Spotify for the No. 1 spot by this summer. Apple Music is growing its U.S. subscriber base by five percent each month, compared to Spotify's two percent. The company's services category, which includes Apple Music subscriptions and iTunes download sales, brought in $8.47 billion during the fourth quarter, up 18 percent year over year.
