Clippers Fan Sums Up Why Being a Sports Fan Is Ultimately a Cruel and Unusual Punishment

Outrageous highs and shuddering lows are part of the bargain when you support a sports team. For LA Clippers superfan Luke Mitchell, Blake Griffin’s trade to the Detroit Pistons in late January was definitely a low moment. Not only was Mitchell, disappointed that his favorite player had left the team, he also has to completely reassess his collection of Clippers jerseys. A January 14 video from the University of Oregon student shows him revealing 11 of his Griffin 32 Clippers jerseys in what was originally an attempt to make a viral video to help Griffin get chosen for the 2018 All Star game.Instead, the clip went viral after the trade went public, with Twitter having a good laugh at Mitchell’s expense. The Oregon Ducks graphic design intern took things in his stride and has been retweeting shares of the video and posted a three-part tribute to Griffin, thanking him for his time at the Clippers. He may reevaluate his sporting purchases in future though.
