Good afternoon, despite knowing this is the coldest time of the year, it's way colder than we can bear... so grab your hot packs and warmest winter gear... it's just another freezing day. Cold wave alerts are in place across much of the country. Many regions saw more record-breaking temperatures this morning.

Besides, we are dealing with dry air with dry weather alerts issued in some parts with humidity levels dropping to as low as 35 percent including here in Seoul.

Taking a closer look at today's highs... Seoul will inch up to -8 degrees Celsius but sharp winds will make it feel colder, Daegu and Gwangju will rise to minus 2 and minus 3 degrees Celsius.

We'll have to wait until the middle of next week to see readings go back to seasonal averages. But readings will plunge again after that.

With that, let's take a look at the international weather for viewers around the world.

While most of us in South Korea will have another freezing but sunny day, most cities in North Korea will also have exceptionally cold temperatures all day.

As for the rest of Asia, the most active volcano in the Philippines, called Mayon, is at risk of a major eruption. It's been spewing ash for two weeks, and, starting this week, it's started gushing out lava as well.

Meanwhile, it looks like it will be a partly cloudy day in Sydney with highs in the upper twenties.

Heading to North America, the weather is spring-like now in Washington DC but February is shaping up to be a cold one.

As for South America, Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro will have a wet day, have an umbrella handy.

Taking you to Europe,.. Madrid lifts air pollution traffic restrictions on Thursday following a favorable weather forecast from Spain's state weather agency.

Lastly to Africa, Cairo and Cape Town will have a windy Thursday.

That's all the weather update for now.
