LAHORE: Two groups of students clashed at the Punjab University campus here over a cultural event on early Monday morning, resulting in injuries to several students.

According to official sources at the varsity, a heavy contingent of police personnel deployed at the university after the clash broke out between the two groups of students.

A group of enraged students vandalized the electrical engineering department of the university and set fire to a research lab during the clash. They also damaged vehicles parked near the department.

The violence started in the university when a group of students attacked the students belonging to their rival group who were busy in preparations of a cultural event.

Following the incident, the university administration called in police to help restore order at the campus. The doors of the varsity were closed for media persons and other unauthorized people after the disturbance.
