Avalanche in Swiss ski resort caught on camera
  • 6 years ago
This is the moment an avalanche took place in the Swiss ski resort of Zermatt, where 13,000 tourists have been stranded.

The avalanche took place on a road between Täsch and Zermatt in Switzerland on January 4.

The closure of the road left tourists stuck in Zermatt, which lies below the Matterhorn peak.

"The incident happened on a road which was already closed to any traffic. The video was taken by a surveillance system: nobody was in danger at any time, there were no persons in the area," writes the company that owns the footage.

Road and rail links to the mountain resort had been cut off for the last two days due to extreme weather.

Some people managed to leave the mountain resort using a helicopter.

Others are waiting for the rail links to reopen.

Officials announced that the trains are due to be operational on Wednesday (January 10).
