Three Spanish cross-country skiers have died in the Swiss Alps after being engulfed by an avalanche on Saturday.
Police in the canton of Valais say two fellow skiers survived after another group of skiers alerted authorities of the incoming avalanche.
The five Spaniards were crossing the famed Aletsch Glacier in southern Switzerland and heading to the Fiescheralp area.
Heavy snowfall has blanketed the Alps over the past few days, prompting avalanche warnings.
