Heavy Rainfall Brings Severe Flooding to Streets of Maui

A flash flood warning was in effect for the Hawaiian island of Maui on Wednesday, December 20, as heavy rainfall battered the island.Authorities extended the flood watch to 5 pm, reporting rainfall rates of up to two inches per hour in the worst-affected areas. A Winter Storm Warning and a High Surf Advisory were also in place.Flooded conditions and localized landslides forced the closure of several roads around Maui. Hawaii News Now reported that about 3,000 households in Wailuku and Waikapu temporarily lost power after a tree branch fell on power lines.The video shows a car navigating flooded streets in Kahului, one of the areas under the flood warning.
