While many in Houston fled their homes and workplaces in the wake of Hurricane Harvey, some residents found themselves trapped inside over the weekend.
The New York Post reports that employees of El Bolillo Bakery, “spent their confinement making sweet treats for other flood victims.”
According to Public Radio International, they made use of “the 4,000 pounds of flour they had on hand,” and, “baked day and night for two days straight,” filling, “every shelf in the store's kitchen.”
The media outlet also notes that local authorities picked up hundreds of bakery goods they made and gave to those in need.
Brian Alvarado, manager of El Bolillo, told Chron.com that the very hard-working employees were able to leave the bakery on Monday.
He also said that the bakery is welcoming customers and commented, “How [the employees] helped us…is the only reason we were able to open..."
