Opposition Leader Odinga Draws Crowd in Violence-Hit Nairobi Neighborhood

Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga arrived in Kibera in Nairobi on Sunday, August 13, to address a large crowd of supporters. Odinga was left disappointed by his loss to Uhuru Kenyatta in the country’s recent elections, which he said were rigged.The visit followed a night of violence on August 11 in which at least 11 people, including a young girl, were killed were killed. Odinga reportedly met with the girl’s family in Kibera.Speaking to a crowd during the visit, Odinga said he would make a decision by Tuesday, August 15, on what his next move would be in response to the election result.He called on supporters nationwide to strike on Monday, skipping work to show their support for his campaign.
