Report: Steve Bannon Has 'Largely Disappeared'

Politico reports Steve Bannon appears to have distanced himself from key discussions at the White House.

President Trump's chief strategist Steve Bannon appears to have distanced himself lately from key policy discussions at the White House.
Politico reports, citing White House advisers, "Bannon, chastened by internal rivalries and by President Donald Trump’s growing suspicion that he is looking out for his own interests, is in a self-imposed exile, having chosen to step back from Trump’s inner circle for the sake of self-preservation..."
Sources told Politico that Bannon, who could be frequently seen in the Oval Office in the past, "now spends hours camped out at the conference table in the office of White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus, reading the news or working on his phone, according to a senior White House aide."
Politico's piece presents a much different picture of Bannon's involvement than what Axios reported just weeks ago.
Axios noted on July 5, citing sources, “the proud culture warrior who was briefly and very publicly in the Trump doghouse, is ascendant after what friends call a period of ‘hibernation.’"
As further evidence of Bannon's reclamation of power, Axios wrote, “his worldview is clearly in Trump's head”
The publication listed some of the behaviors he “loves, enables” and “encourages” including, “a hard line on immigration,” giving, “the middle finger to NATO, and Germany in particular," and, “smackdowns with the media.”
It's unclear if developments in the past several weeks have led to Bannon stepping back or he just has less of a visible presence in the White House.
