Kia and Genesis, both under the Hyundai conglomerate, reigned supreme on J.D. Power's Initial Quality survey. The survey ranks car brands by the reported number of flaws per 100 owners in the first 90 days of buying a new vehicle. Kia came out on top with only 72 reported issues per 100 owners, which dropped from 83 reported issues in 2016. Genesis followed with 77 reports. According to J.D. Power, the study collected responses from an estimate of 80,000 car purchasers. It aims to help automakers assess new car quality to better assist car buyers and benchmark against competitors. Common complaints with new cars were based on 'infotainment systems' like voice-recognition setups and key high-tech safety systems.
