As part of World Refugee Day, the UNHCR highlighted its collaboration with the IKEA Foundation to transform the Azraq Refugee Camp in Jordan into the world’s first of its kind to be powered by renewable energy, beginning in May 2017.According to an official press release, the solar farm has brought renewable power to a population that lived for two and a half years with only sporadic access to electricity and will contribute to Jordan’s national energy strategy to achieve a green economy by 2020. The solar farm will result in immediate savings of US $1.5 million per year and it will reduce CO2 emissions by 2,370 tons per year."The video was released as part of a larger campaign around the release of the UNHCR’s Global Trends Report 2016 and World Refugee Day.
