Wait, Katy Perry is getting paid how much to join the judges table on American Idol?
According to TMZ, Katy scored a $25 million dollar deal to be the lead judge on the re-boot of the famous TV program. $25 million.
That seems like quite a lot of money for someone to sit on a panel and pick out the country’s next talented singers, but we guess the people at ABC figured she was worth it. TMZ reports, “Katy had all the leverage. If ABC ended up announcing the show without a judge, they’d be screwed.”
Also, it’s reported that Ryan Seacrest may return as a host if the price is right as well, and TMZ reports that he only made $15 million at his peak during the show, so now that he knows what Katy is pulling in he might raise the stakes in his negotiation.
For ABC’s sake, we hope that advertisers and viewers are excited to get back on the “American Idol” train, because things sure are getting expensive.
