Virginian mayor calls out 'KKK-style' rally

In Charlottesville, Virginia, protestors rallied against the removal of a monument honoring Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Mayor Mike Singer responded to the event with a statement: "This event involving torches at night in Lee Park was either profoundly ignorant or was designed to instill fear in our minority populations in a way that harkens back to the days of the KKK." The rally's leader, Richard Spencer, spearheaded a 'Heil Trump' march shortly after the 2016 presidential election. Cities all over the southern US have debated removing such monuments following the 2015 massacre at a black church in South Carolina by a self-proclaimed white supremacist named Dylan Roof.
