India Launches Satellite to Expand Telecommunications Network in South Asia

India launched a communication satellite from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in the southeastern state of Andhra Pradesh on May 5.The Indian government said the satellite will hopefully improve telecommunication and broadcasting services in neighbouring South Asian countries, such as Sri Lanka, the Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the satellite was a “gift” to those countries and was an “example of true friendship and cooperation.”
