Gallup Poll: Number Of Uninsured Americans Has Risen Since Last Year

A new poll has found that the number of uninsured adults in the U.S. has risen by nearly half a percent compared to the last quarter of 2016.
A new poll has found that the number of uninsured adults in the U.S. has risen by nearly half a percent compared to the last quarter of 2016.
Gallup reports in a Monday news release that while 10.9 percent reported having no health insurance towards the end of last year, the first quarter of this year saw that number increase to 11.3 percent.
Nevertheless, Gallup points out that “the number of U.S. adults without health insurance is still 6.7 percentage points lower than it was at its peak in the third quarter of 2013.”
According to the news release, at that time, the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandates and health care exchanges had not yet been activated, and 18 percent were uninsured.
Gallup suspects that "the slight rise in the number of uninsured Americans in the first quarter of 2017 could, in part, be attributable to the uncertainty surrounding the long-term future of the Affordable Care Act."
The results are based on a survey of 44,596 adults, aged 18 and older, from early January through the end of March 2017.
