Hyundai recalls 978,000 cars
Hyundai is recalling nearly 978,000 cars in the U.S. because of a seatbelt malfunction. The company issued recalls for the Sonata midsize sedans from 2011 through 2014 and the Sonata hybrid from 2011 to 2015. Reports stated that fasteners for the front seat belt anchors may not have been fully latched during assembly, causing the belt to detach. The issue was first discovered in September when the owner of a 2013 Sonata’s front seat belt came loose during a crash. Only one minor injury caused by the malfunction was reported. Hyundai will notify owners starting April 7, and dealers can inspect and repair the anchor system if needed.
