Leech pulled from boy’s nose a month after he went for a swim

INDONESIA — Video of a leech being pulled from a young boy’s nose is going viral in Indonesia. The short video appeared on Facebook on February 12 without much of a description.

From dialogue between a woman who appears to be the boy’s mother and the doctor, the leech seems to have taken up residence in the boy’s nose as he swam at a waterfall south of Jakarta during a family holiday in January.

At some point during his swim, the invader silently entered his body. Several weeks after the trip, suspicious itching progressed to nose bleeds. Unable to determine their cause, his mother began to worry. A trip to the doctor would reveal all.

The video shows a well-fed leech, fat and strong after feeding on the boy’s blood for almost a month.
