Over 100 celebrities speak out against Texas 'bathroom bill'
Nearly 140 artists have come together to speak out against a Texas “bathroom bill” targeting transgender people. Artists such as Lady Gaga, Alicia Keys, and Oscar-winning star Jennifer Lawrence have already condemned the bill, criticizing the Republican-backed effort. The bill would require transgender people to use public bathrooms corresponding to the sex listed on their birth certificate. The controversial bill has already received backlash from the NFL, which threatened to hold future super bowls in the state if the bill is passed. "We want all fans to feel welcomed at our events, and NFL policies prohibit discrimination based on age, gender, race, religion, sexual orientation, or any other improper standard," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy wrote in an email to the Houston Chronicle.
