North Carolina passes repeal of 'bathroom bill'
The North Carolina House of Representatives passed a bill to repeal the controversial bathroom law that took away legal protection for transgendered people. The repeal won a 70-48 vote in the N.C. state house on Thursday. The bathroom law, known as House Bill 2, banned transgendered people from using restrooms that match their gender identities. The Senate passed the bill to North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper for his signature. Gov. Roy Cooper has supported the repeal of the bill in the past and is expected to sign. LGBT groups have criticized the deal, as the bill only eliminates certain parts of the bathroom law and won’t protect transgender people from discrimination.
