by Anthony FalcoThe Army’s Star Wars-like hoverbike is one step closer to production. Known as the Joint Tactical Aerial Resupply Vehicle, it was recently successfully demoed for Department of Defense officials. It is being developed as an autonomous delivery drone that can be used to resupply troops on the battle field. The quadcopter started as a kickstarter project for UK-based Malloy Aeronautics, who then teamed up with defense company SURVICE Engineering to develop the bike. Besides giving the drone full autonomy, the team also hopes to improve its range to 125 miles, capacity to 800 pounds and speed to 60 miles per hour or more.
