Playfulness Beneficial to Mental Health

Dr. Stuart Brown is an 83-year-old with a hunger for playtime. The doctor’s interest piqued in 1966 when he found that a mass murderer had been deprived of play his entire life. Brown suggests tapping into your best childhood memories of having fun and trying to sustain that feeling at work. Studies have also shown that playfulness among couples makes for a better relationship. The participants “reported more desire for each other and were 30 per cent more likely to have sex.” Therapists also use art and creativity to help trauma survivors - both young and old alike.
