Hitchhiker almost gets run over on unlit road

Footage has emerged from the UK of a hitchhiker straying into the road and almost getting hit by a car.

The video, captured in Peterborough on Sunday, shows the pedestrian standing in the middle of the unlit road in a bid to flag down the passing vehicle.

Fortunately, and due to the driver's excellent reactions, the car slows down in time to allow the man to jump out of the way.

"Stood in middle of a unlit road trying to catch a free lift. Nearly got one in the back of an ambulance," the filmer wrote online.
