HAINAN, CHINA — A bridesmaid in China died after binge drinking baijiu, a strong distilled white liquor made from grain.
28-year-old Yang was a bridesmaid at a wedding banquet in Wenchang city, Hainan province. From the video shared on Weibo, Yang had no choice but to chug China’s infamous baijiu, with an alcohol content from 40% to 60%.
While the crowd was still cheering for Yang bravely chugged a whole glass of baijiu, she passed out completely. Not sensing any danger, the men picked her up from the ground and wheeled her away using a baggage trolley.
According to Chinese media Sohu, Yang was taken to the hospital at midnight. After more than 40 minutes of emergency rescue, the doctor declared that she died from choking on her own vomit.
