Notes: The teams split their two regular season meetings a season ago with each team winning at home. San Francisco needed overtime to beat the Rams at home by a field goal.

It was a three man race for the starting quarterback for Los Angeles in training camp and it was Case Keenum winning the job. First round pick Jared Goff will be a backup as he is not ready to command the starting job yet. Veteran head coach Jeff Fisher has the experience to slowly develop Goff for the starter’s role in the future. LA has a solid running attack behind lead back Todd Gurley with Benny Cunningham and Terrence Magee as reserves. Keenum’s weapons in the passing game include Tavon Austin, Kenny Britt and talented rookie Pharoh Cooper. Los Angeles prides itself on defense but sat 23rd in the league last year by allowing 367 yards per game. The Rams were the last ranked offensive team in the league a season ago and converted a horrid 26% on third down.

San Francisco after a poor season hired Chip Kelly as their head coach. Blaine Gabbert is expected to start under center. The former first round pick for Jacksonville took the starters job away from Colin Kaepernick by mid-season. He completed 63% of his throws for 2031 yards with 10 touchdowns and 7 picks. The running backs are Carlos Hyde as the starter with backup Shaun Draughn. The 49ers receiving corps include Torrey Smith, Jeremy Kerley and Bruce Ellington. San Francisco was the 31st and second last offense in the NFL in 2015 as the team averaged 303 yards per game.
