AUCKLAND, NEW ZEALAND — Domino’s demonstration of its new pizza delivery drones on August 25 made for a marked development in the food delivery service, while also putting pizza delivery boys on notice: their time is running out.

Designed by American drone company Flirtey, the drones will fly out to their destination carrying the delicious cheesy cargo. The drones will be able to carry up to 5.5 pounds. Customers will be notified via text when the drones are in the area, nearing arrival. Once at the landing site, the press of a button from a smartphone will lower the pizza down from the drone by a wire tether. The drone will then place the box gently on the ground, release its grip, and retract the tether before flying back to base.

The drones will begin dropping pizza pies on customers from a Domino’s in Auckland starting September 26.
