Parents often post pictures of their children online, but those in France are being warned that this action could result in legal trouble. 

According to The Verge, the French periodical Le Figaro recently noted that strict national privacy laws prohibit the “publishing and distributing images of another person without their consent.”

Violators, including parents, would then be subject to a maximum one-year sentence in prison and an approximately $50,000 fine. 

Digital Trends quotes privacy expert Eric Delcroix as saying in the French news story that “If, in a few years, the children feel they are victims of infringement of privacy by their own parents, they may demand restitution.”
