President Obama is expected to deliver a statement Tuesday morning about Guantanamo Bay.
The president will speak from the Roosevelt Room at the White House at 10:30 a.m. ET, according to the White House.
The Associated Press reported that the Pentagon's long-awaited plan to shut down the detention facility at Guantanamo will be delivered to Congress on Tuesday.
U.S. officials say the long-awaited plan, which has been on Obama's agenda since he took office in 2009, calls for up to $475 million in construction costs, according to the AP.
The cost would in part cover the transfer of some of the remaining 91 detainees to facilities in the United States, but officials say it will ultimately be offset by as much as $180 million per year in operating cost savings.
