Sharpton: Oscars lack of diversity 'is cultural insult'
The push for a boycott of next month's Academy Awards telecast   is reaching its second act, with the Rev. Al Sharpton slamming the lack of diversity among the nominees as a "cultural insult."
Sharpton’s National Action Network is joining the chorus calling for potential TV viewers to tune out the Feb. 28 telecast to protest a second straight year in which not a single person of color was nominated for an acting Oscar.
“It reflects a 21st Century with 50 year old culture,” the civil rights leader told the Daily News.
“This is a total exclusion of our talent and our abilities.
Hollywood has become like the Rocky Mountains: the higher up you get, the whiter it is.”
Sharpton is hoping the effort will hit the movie industry where it hurts-by scaring away advertising dollars.
