German Police Arrest Three Algerians Over Cologne Assaults
  • 8 years ago
Cologne police said Monday they have arrested three Algerians in connection with the mass assaults on New Year’s Eve, including one they believe could have participated in sexual harassment.
The arrests mark small progress in the investigations into the assaults that have shocked a nation and sparked a divisive debate about the security risks of migration in the country.
Hundreds of women have complained they were sexually harassed or robbed, mainly outside Cologne’s main train station during the New Year celebrations.
Officials have said suspects were mainly from North Africa.
Police said they arrested two Algerian men on Saturday in a refugee camp in Kerpen, a small town southwest of Cologne.
