IPSWICH, ENGLAND — A 40-year old man from Ipswich, eastern England, has been jailed for seven years after being found guilty of a vicious and cowardly attack on an elderly man.

Security video filmed outside a newsagent’s store last March captured Shane Gull punching a 76-year old man in the face, knocking him over.

He then continued the attack, kicking and punching the victim’s head and body at least 16 times before passersby intervened.

Following the attack, Gull was detained by security staff until police arrived. He was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm.

The elderly victim suffered a laceration to his head, as well as swelling and bruising to his face and hands.

Sentencing Gull at Ipswich Crown Court on Monday, the judge said he had shown no remorse whatsoever, even when shown pictures of the victim’s injuries.
