A bizarre video has emerged showing more than 28,000 teddy bears being thrown onto the ice during a Canadian junior hockey match on Sunday.

The filmer wrote online: "Each year, the Calgary Hitmen Junior Hockey team hosts a Teddy Bear Toss to collect stuffed animals to give to local charities and sick kids in hospitals. At the first goal by the Calgary Hitmen, the crowd is encouraged to throw all the bears on the ice.

"With over 19,000 people in the stands for this game there are more than 28,000 stuffed animals thrown. This year is a world record for the total amount collected at 28,815 teddy bears.

"It takes approx 45 minutes to clear the ice and resume the game."
