Yoga class scrapped at Ottawa University because it's offensive
  • 8 years ago
OTTAWA — As U.S. college students fight to out PC each other, Canadian college students have PCed back and canceled a free yoga class after student leaders at the University of Ottawa whined it might be seen as cultural appropriation.

Jen Scharf had been teaching a yoga class for the last seven years at Ottawa University's Center for Students with Disabilities until the social justice warriors stepped in. A representative for the center emailed her, saying: "Yoga had been under a lot of controversy lately due to how it is being practiced" and which cultures those practices "are being taken from."

Scharf said her classes focused only on the physical benefits, not the religious or spiritual aspects of yoga. Student federation president Romeo Ahimakin said they suspended the class to make it more accessible, inclusive and responsive to the needs of students.
