Breastfeeding mom gets shot twice during gunfight with home invaders

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA — A man has been charged following a home invasion that saw a young mother shot and hospitalized last Tuesday.
Semantha Bunce, 21 , is recovering from gunshot wounds after she was shot inside her Charlotte, North Carolina home by armed thugs. Bunce was breastfeeding her son when intruders entered the home after kicking in the front door. The mother-of-two placed the 4-month-old in his crib and grabbed her husband's gun.
Bunce, a combat medic in the National Guard, stood armed in the bedroom doorway. The intruders opened fire on her from the stairwell. Bunce returned fire with the handgun.
"I think it was a shock to the intruders just as much as it was to her," her husband Paul Bunce told WSOCTV. The intruders retreated, Bunce was struck twice while defending her family and her home.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the Bunce family with expenses while the 21-year-old mom is being treated at Carolinas Medical Center.
23-year-old Reco Latur Dawkins Jr. turned himself Saturday. He's been charged with attempted murder, felony breaking and entering and conspiracy to commit felony breaking and entering, reported WSOCTV. There's no word yet on the other suspect.
