Dri Archer will continue to return kicks, and that’s the right move

As the time wound down on an other Pittsburgh Steelers loss last Sunday at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals, the finger pointing and speculation began.

From the timeout Mike Tomlin “should have” called to three ugly Ben Roethlisberger interceptions, certain subsets of Pittsburgh faithful couldn’t help but point to their weekly scapegoat: KR Dri Archer.

Archer had a couple of head-scratching incidents in that game that seemed to be the inverse of the result anyone would hope for from a kick returner. On one particular play, he fielded a kickoff eight yards deep in the end zone, chose to return it, and was tackled before the 10-yard line. Later, he fielded a kick less than a yard deep and proceeded to quickly down the ball.

Fans’ patience with the former third-round pick is wearing thin, just as it is with several local media outlets.
